Volvo’s drive towards Accident Free Car – Part I

Posted by: Sri Narra

2009 is already upon us.

There are no flying cars yet (at least not in regular use) nor is the regular commute any less miserable.

But there is a more sensible Advanced Research Project happening in Europe with Volvo’s contribution that might make the commute a whole lot safer.

Our friendly European brethren have put a fleet of a hundred Volvo V70 and XC70 cars, equipped with cameras and computers in a huge European field test project, which will monitor the driver’s behavior to understand how they react in complex traffic situations.

This three-year research project is part of the EU-project called EuroFOT (Field Operational Tests) which has the ambition to develop a safer, cleaner and more efficient road transportation system in Europe.

Here is the video with detailed narrative..

Safer drive for everyone – now thats something from Detroit (Ford is the parent of Volvo) we all could sign up for !
