Volvo’s drive towards Accident Free Car – Part I
2009 is already upon us.
There are no flying cars yet (at least not in regular use) nor is the regular commute any less miserable.
But there is a more sensible Advanced Research Project happening in Europe with Volvo’s contribution that might make the commute a whole lot safer.
Our friendly European brethren have put a fleet of a hundred Volvo V70 and XC70 cars, equipped with cameras and computers in a huge European field test project, which will monitor the driver’s behavior to understand how they react in complex traffic situations.
This three-year research project is part of the EU-project called EuroFOT (Field Operational Tests) which has the ambition to develop a safer, cleaner and more efficient road transportation system in Europe.
